Lymphocyte concanavalin A capping: a similarity between Down's syndrome and early onset primary degenerative dementia.

چکیده
Lymphocyte capping with concanavalin A was studied in adult patients with Down's syndrome and aged patients with primary degenerative dementia. In both disorders a decreased capping was found as compared with age-matched and clinically relevant control groups. Colchicine had a strong enhancing effect on capping in Down's syndrome. In primary degenerative dementia the enhancing effect of colchicine was restricted to a subgroup of patients with onset of the dementing illness before the age of 80 years.

Late-onset myoclonic epilepsy in Down’s syndrome (LOMEDS)
The aim of this paper is to report a patient with late-onset myoclonic epilepsy in Down's syndrome (LOMEDS) as a differential diagnosis of adult-onset progressive myoclonic epilepsies. A 55-year-old male with Down's syndrome (DS) is described who developed progressively frequent myoclonus and generalized myoclonic-tonic seizures (GMTSs) at the age of 52. EEG recordings demonstrated background s...
متن کاملNeuroimaging of individuals with Down's syndrome at-risk for dementia: Evidence for possible compensatory events
BACKGROUND We report functional and structural brain indicators that may precede the onset of dementia in individuals with Down's syndrome (DS). METHODS Middle-aged adults with DS (n=19), a group known to be at high risk for dementia, were studied with (1) positron emission tomography (PET) to determine cerebral glucose metabolic rate (GMR), (2) structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to ...

متن کاملThe relationship between endocytosis of concanavalin A and phytohaemagglutinin receptors and blast transformation, and direct identification of individual rabbit lymphocytes reactive to both mitogens.
Distribution and modulation of rabbit lymphocyte phytohaemagglutinin acceptors and concanavalin A acceptors during activation of rabbit lymphocytes have been examined by electron microscopy. Two types of cell surface acceptors have been tentatively identified, lectin binding acceptors that do not modulate, and receptors that are endocytosed when blast transformation is stimulated. All of the ce...
